BEARS Students Recognized for Growth and Achievement

Principal for Special Programs Anne Rode shared words of pride and encouragement during the ceremony.

"This is the first time that all elementary BEARS classrooms have been in one building, so we are proud to celebrate your children today," Rode said. "Teachers, classroom staff and related service providers collaborated on unique awards that represent the skills, accomplishments and growth each student has demonstrated this year."

Students were recognized with individualized awards that reflected their unique personalities, strengths and achievements. Honors included the Life of the Party Award, Splashtastic Bouncer Award, Helpful Heart Award, Librarian Award, STEM Award, Artistic Excellence Award and many others. Additional recognitions were presented in art, physical education, counseling, physical therapy, occupational therapy, assistive technology and speech services.

The celebration also recognized students who are graduating from the elementary program and moving on to middle school.

BEARS is the acronym for BOCES Educating Autistic and Related Disorders Students. This program is designed to support students with autism spectrum disorders, along with those who experience multi-sensory or motor deficiencies, as well as developmental delays in language, cognitive, emotional, and psychomotor areas. BEARS serves students from kindergarten through grade 12 and up to age 21, helping them to reach their full potential through individualized care and a supportive learning environment.

Congratulations to all BEARS students on a successful school year!
