On February 28, 2020, WSWHE BOCES and SUNY Adirondack held their ECCA/PTECH Leadership Forum at the SUNY Adirondack Queensbury campus. Superintendents, principals, business guests, current students, alumni and instructors were there to discuss the ECCA/PTECH programs, projects and the impact on the students.
Dr. Kristine Duffy, President at SUNY Adirondack and Mr. James Dexter, District Superintendent for WSWHE BOCES welcomed guests to the forum. Michael Prutsman, Assistant Dean for Extended Programs at SUNY Adirondack and Kim Wegner, Lead Coordinator for Innovative Programs gave an overview of the programs offered, the path students take and program enrollment numbers.
A special guest, Mr. Jared Humiston, president of Adirondack Technical Solutions, was presented with the ECCA Outstanding Business Partner Award. Mr. Humiston, has been instrumental to the IT Networking program, from curriculum advising to seeing the value to programs and students. His company has hired several graduates from the ECCA program.
The majority of the event was dedicated to guests interacting with the students in the program and hearing the exciting work they are doing, what they’ve learned and how they plan to apply this knowledge in the future
Kim Wegner, Lead Coordinator for Innovative Programs said “Often school administrators need to focus on data, without having the opportunity to hear about student experiences. The intent of the ECCA/PTECH Leadership Forum was to allow school administrators in WSWHE BOCES supervisory area to hear directly from students and business partners on how ECCA/PTECH has had an impact on their high school experience and business growth, in other words, hear their stories.”
Additional special guests included Ron Stevens from Praxis and Jesse Tyree from Black Dog Designs. Both have been paramount business partners. Not only have they been advisors to the ECCA planning team, but they create opportunities for internships and full time positions at their companies when students graduate.
