In October, four students from the F. Donald Myers Education Center (Donald Carpenter & Gregory Shambo of Warrensburg CSD, John Rogalo of Mechanicville CSD, and Richie Latimer of Stillwater CSD) attended the 90th National FFA Convention & Expo and competed in the National Forestry Career Development Event in Indianapolis Indiana.
The National FFA Forestry Career Development Event (CDE) is designed to stimulate student interest and to promote the forestry industry as a career choice. It also provides recognition for those who have demonstrated skills and competencies as a result of forestry instruction in the agriculture education classroom.
This year, the Forestry CDE required students to take a 50 question general knowledge exam, identification of 25 tree specimens, complete a timber cruise for board foot volume and complete a forest business management problem. As a team students had to complete a presentation on "What forestry best management practices (BMP's) are used in your state and why."
The students returned home with three bronze emblem awards, a silver emblem award and received a bronze emblem award as a team. Congratulations!
